About STModels

Stuart Taylor

STModels is a one man operation started as a cottage industry out of my modelling room.

I have modelled steam railways most of my life, at least the last 50 years. I have modelled in many scales, starting out in my childhood with OO. In my 20′s I switched to N gauge. In my 30′s I switched to 3mm which is probably where I would have stayed but, at the time, there were supply problems with track components and wheels and I struggled to build a running chassis. At heart I am a modeller who likes to build items, either from kits or from scratch. As a result, I switched to 009 where there was plenty of kits but nothing ready to run. Locomotives used chassis that typically came from N gauge engines which gave a route to producing working engines.

I've been modelling in 009 for many years now and am here to stay, to the point where in 2021 I decided it was time to give something back to the 009 Society and I became their News editor.

In 2019 I bought my first 3D printer, the Anycubic Photon which turned out to need a very steep learning curve. I elected to design items using Fusion 360 which is free for hobbyists. There are many people out there who are creating incredible items for use in our hobby but my sweet spot became creating detailing items that needed a level of repeatability to which 3D printing is ideally suited.

In 2022 I replaced the Anycubic Photon with an Anycubic Mono, which produces excellent prints for a £300 printer.

Many of the prints to date have been done for my Welshpool & Llanfair layout, Melin Dolrhyd, along with prints for friends for their modelling needs.
